Following up on my previous article, "Quitting to Save Humanity: Silicon Valley's Safest Sure Bet in the Morality Business," today, Silicon Valley elites are changing their tune one after another.
On September 8, 2026, Jacob Coxon resigned and published a long article, pointing out that around 2030, AI could completely escape control and pose a devastating risk to human survival.
These remarks instantly swept the global AI community and also made Jacob Coxon briefly unrivaled in the spotlight. I already mentioned the playbook behind this in the previous article, so I won't repeat it.
Then Trump entered the fray. In response to the calls for "legislation" arising from this controversy, he escalated it directly to the level of "strangling America's frontier technology competitiveness." During this period, he dragged China into it as well, and for a while global media was abuzz.
Trump's intervention directly blocked the path these Silicon Valley people were trying to use administrative legislation to build industry barriers to entry.
Then came Jensen Huang taking Trump's call on the spot while attending a conference and clearly stating his opposition to introducing restrictive laws—this was something Jensen Huang was pleased to see.
Now Altman has also quickly changed his tune, saying, "I can understand users' concerns, but I hope they can trust that companies themselves are capable of ensuring AI safety."
This whole sequence took no more than a week; morality and all that is just a tool.
